UDC to Host ‘Creating Healthy Allyships with Indigenous Peoples’ Talk on Sept. 3
NARROWSBURG – The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) will host a public presentation, “Creating Healthy Allyships with Indigenous Peoples”, on Thursday, September 3, at 6:30 p.m., at the UDC’s Narrowsburg, NY office and by Zoom.
Enx Eeden, who is of mixed Lenni Lenape heritage, will virtually present the program that will address the question of how do we nurture the relationships between Native communities among their ancestral lands and ecological organizations?
Today, it’s imperative to develop strong and mutual connections with Native stewards and communities with vested interests in history or nature. In recent years, the connections between tribes and environmental programs have made big waves for natural protection and pose a unique opportunity for teamwork. Sharing space that supports mutual discourse and collaboration is a constant process.
The Sept. 3 program will explore land acknowledgements, etiquette when consulting Indigenous tribes, and deciphering between corporate interest or cultural support. Discussed will be ways to support each other and cultivate understanding for the people, the rivers, and the earth.
Enx (pronounced Enkh) Eeden advocates for cultural revitalization through art, activism, and education. He is the author of “Two Spirit Traditions: Gender Animism and Turtle Isand’s Untold Intertribal Arts” and a third-generation boatsman.
Eeden offers programming about culture, diversity, equity, ethics and survivor leadership to universities, non-governmental organizations, and national agencies. The focus of his work is to uplift impacted people who share nuanced intersections of these matters in a light reflective of traditional values. Throughout his studies and fieldwork, he has trained in clinical, ceremonial, academic, policy, and social justice settings.
The UDC’s monthly business meeting to follow the approximately 30-minute presentation will include reports from the Delaware River Basin Commission, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, National Park Service, and UDC Executive Director; discussion of old and new business; and public comments.
All UDC meetings held at 211 Bridge St. in Narrowsburg, NY are open to the public.
