UDC Welcomes $25 Awards Ceremony Sponsorships

NARROWSBURG – The Upper Delaware Council, Inc. (UDC) partnership of land, water, and people offers an opportunity for local businesses and friends to support the non-profit conservation organization’s work by becoming $25 sponsors of the UDC’s 25th Annual Awards Ceremony.

The banquet to honor those individuals, groups, communities, and agencies who have contributed to the Upper Delaware River Valley’s quality of life or protected its resources will take place on Sunday, April 28, at The Lackawaxen Inn, 188 Scenic Drive in Lackawaxen, PA. Tickets are $27, with reservations due by April 19.

Award nominations are being accepted from the public through March 15. This year’s slate of honorees will be announced by March 29. A description of award categories, nomination forms, and directory of past recipients are posted at www.upperdelawarecouncil.org or available on request.

The suggested $25 sponsorships will help the UDC to offset the expenses of hosting the banquet during this silver anniversary year. This is the only event that highlights the valuable good works being done on both sides of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, in service of the river valley community.

The request also recognizes that the UDC 501(c)3 organization established in 1988 as an alternative to a federal takeover of the 1978 Congressionally-designated river corridor from Hancock, NY to Mill Rift, PA has operated on the same, flat-level funding since its inception. That line item allocation through the National Park Service Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River’s budget is now subject to a five percent cut due to the federal sequester coming into effect six months into the current fiscal year.

With a voting membership comprised of eight New York towns and five Pennsylvania townships
bordering on the Upper Delaware River, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the State of New York, and the Delaware River Basin Commission in a non-voting capacity, the UDC is tasked with overseeing implementation of the 1986 Final River Management Plan and the Land and Water Use Guidelines by all stakeholders in the Upper Delaware’s stewardship.

The public is welcome to attend the April 28 banquet in Lackawaxen which begins at 3 p.m. with a
reception featuring hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. An extensive buffet dinner will be served at 4 p.m. A keynote address and the presentation of awards will follow. There will be a special anniversary cake and photo retrospective of the UDC over the past 25 years.

All $25 ceremony sponsors will be recognized with a list of names printed in the awards program as
well as in the Fall/Winter 2013 issue of “The Upper Delaware” newsletter, which is circulated to nearly 10,000 recipients.

Please submit donations by April 19 via a check payable to UDC or cash to Upper Delaware Council,
P.O. Box 192, 211 Bridge St., Narrowsburg, NY 12764. For more information, please call (845) 252
