UDC Seeks Sponsors for 5K ‘Strides Across the Delaware’

NARROWSBURG –The Upper Delaware Council, Inc. (UDC) will host a first-ever “Strides Across the Delaware” 5K Run/Walk on September 28 in the Equinunk, PA-Lordville, NY area to help support its Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River conservation mission and celebrate the non-profit organization’s 25th anniversary in 2013.

The UDC is partnering with the Equinunk Watershed Alliance to organize this event, and actively seeks business and individual sponsors to join the festive bi-state effort. Pledges are needed by July 15.

The UDC’s motto of “Land-Water-People” represents the partnership that has existed for the past quarter-century to protect and conserve the Upper Delaware River’s natural resources, safeguard private property rights, and retain and enhance the quality of life in the river valley.

Those wishing to endorse those goals are encouraged to consider numerous sponsorship opportunities ranging from providing goods and services to offering monetary donations to offset the event’s expenses.

A “wish list” of goods and services includes providing print and broadcast advertisements, t-shirt printing, professional photography, portable toilet rentals, engraved awards, a portable public address system, cloth or plastic handle bags, bottled water, fruit, snack items, and raffle prizes.

Monetary donations at various levels will be acknowledged as follows:

$50 Sponsor–entitled to provide a promotional item, business coupon, or brochure for the participant gift bags;

$100 Sponsor–above benefit, plus a listing on all 5K event publicity materials, including news releases, the www.upperdelawarecouncil.org website, and “The Upper Delaware” newsletter;

$250 Sponsor–all above benefits, plus a business name or individual sponsor listing on the event t-shirt; and

$500 or Higher Sponsor–all above benefits, plus a prominent placement of the business name with an optional logo on the event t-shirt.

“Strides Across the Delaware” participants will line up at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. The course will begin and end at the field adjacent to the Equinunk United Methodist Church on PA State Road 1023, with a crossing of the interstate bridge into Lordville, NY for a short loop down the Town of Hancock’s Bouchouxville Road, before returning to the finish line.

There will be commemorative t-shirts and gift bags for at least the first 100 participants, professional timing to record results, an awards ceremony held to present prizes in numerous categories, and food and beverages offered.

Registration details will be posted on the UDC’s website. For more information, please contact Travis O’Dell at the UDC, P.O. Box 192, 211 Bridge St., Narrowsburg, NY 12764, (845) 252-3022, travis@upperdelawarecouncil.org.

The 5K Run/Walk will offer a land-based, family event to complement the UDC’s annual sponsorship of a summer raft outing open to the public.

The UDC’s 25th Annual Raft Trip will take place on Sunday, August 4, from the Ten Mile River Access south of Narrowsburg to Kittatinny Canoes’ Luke’s Landing Base in Barryville. Reservations are due by July 26 and the cost is $14 for ages 5-12 and $24 for ages 13 and up. Please contact Cindy Odell at (845) 252-3022 or cindy@upperdelawarecouncil.org to request a registration form.

The Upper Delaware Council was established in 1988 to oversee implementation of the River Management Plan for the nationally-designated Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River stretching from Hancock, NY to Mill Rift, PA.

Voting members are eight New York towns, five Pennsylvania townships, and both of the states that border on the 73.4-mile-long waterway. The Delaware River Basin Commission is a non-voting member, and the UDC operates under a Cooperative Agreement with the National Park Service Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River.
