UDC Hosts Family Raft Trip Aug. 7

NARROWSBURG – All are welcome to join the Upper Delaware Council (UDC) for its 23rd Annual Family Raft Trip on Sunday, August 7. Reservations with advance payment are required by Monday, August 1.

This year’s float trip features a seven-mile segment of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River between Barryville and Pond Eddy.

Guests will park and check-in between the hours of 9-10 a.m. at Kittatinny Canoes’ (KC) Luke’s Landing, located across the road from the KC Barryville Base & Adventure Center at 3854 Rt. 97, Barryville, NY 12719. Continuously-running afternoon shuttle buses will return rafters from the Pond Eddy Base to their vehicles at the end of their trips. The host livery will provide the rafts, paddles, life vests, shuttle transportation, and safety instructions. This average trip length is 3 ½ hours, depending on river levels, wind, and eachgroup’s desired pace.

Minimum occupancy per raft is four people, while six is the general maximum. Parties of less than four will be matched at the UDC’s discretion. Participants should be in good physical condition. Children must weigh at least 40 lbs. and be able to swim to participate. The UDC strongly recommends that all boaters and swimmers wear securely-fastened life vests while on the water. Children age 12 and under are required by law to do so.

Dress to get wet, wear sunscreen and foot protection, and avoid bringing valuables. Pack a picnic lunch if desired and bring plenty of drinking water (no glass containers). Small coolers and waterproof bags for items such as cameras and keys may be tied into the raft.

The UDC’s discounted group rate is $21 for ages 12 and up, and $13 for ages 11 and under. Download registration and waiver forms at www.upperdelawarecouncil.org and submit the names of all participants, along with the ages of any minors under 18, to the UDC at P.O. Box 192, 211 Bridge St., Narrowsburg, NY 12764 or laurie@upperdelawarecouncil.org. Please direct questions to UDC Public Relations Specialist Laurie Ramie at (845) 252-3022 or the above e-mail address.
