UDC Holds Erie Railroad History Program And 2025 Swearing-in Reception on Feb. 6

NARROWSBURG – The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) will host a public presentation, “History of the Erie Railroad in the Callicoon area and the Upper Delaware River Valley” on Thursday, February 6, at 7 p.m. in person at the 211 Bridge St., Narrowsburg, NY office and virtually by Zoom.

Randal Bushart, the Callicoon Depot historian who has worked in the railroad industry for 36 years and has an extensive collection of railroad memorabilia, will speak.

Bushart resides in Selkirk, NY and spends a significant amount of time at his family’s camp in Callicoon which borders the railroad tracks and the Upper Delaware River. He’s a member of the Callicoon Depot Inc. Board of Directors dedicated to restoring the hamlet’s 1896 train station.

After working as a track laborer in the summer of 1987 while going to college then starting his railroad career, Bushart has been in a supervisory position as Manager of Passenger Operations for CSX for over 25 years. His responsibilities include handling interactions with Amtrak and commuter rail trains that operate over CSX’s lines. His territory covers 3,600 rail miles in 19 states and Washington, D.C.

Railroading is a legacy for the Bushart family. His grandfather worked for the railroad near Rochester, NY and his son is a Locomotive Engineer for Norfolk Southern Railroad. Bushart enjoys doing historical railroad research and presentations to share his lifelong interest.

Prior to the presentation, Town of Fremont Town Clerk Jody Schanil will formally administer the oaths of office to 2025 UDC Chairperson Jim Rodgers (Town of Fremont), Vice-Chair Evan Padua (Town of Tusten), and Secretary-Treasurer Al Henry (Berlin Township), who were elected by their peers at the Jan. 2 annual meeting.

The UDC’s monthly business meeting after the railroad presentation will include reports from the Delaware River Basin Commission, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, National Park Service, and UDC Executive Director; discussion of old and new business; and public comments.

After adjournment, all are welcome to join the Council for a swearing-in ceremony reception with cake and coffee.

All UDC meetings are open to the public. To request the Zoom link to participate remotely, contact UDC Administrative Support Stephanie Driscoll at stephanie@upperdelawarecouncil.org or (845) 252-3022. Please check www.upperdelawarecouncil.org or UDC social media pages for any meeting updates.
