NARROWSBURG – The Upper Delaware Council, Inc. (UDC) approved $5,707.98 to support river and shoreline clean-up projects at its May 5 monthly meeting.

The individual award amounts based on applications submitted by five of the UDC’s member municipalities are:
• Town of Deerpark – $2,082.98
• Town of Highland – $1,200
• Town of Tusten – $900
• Town of Lumberland – $775
• Damascus Township – $750

Clean-up projects must be completed by August 15, 2016 to be eligible for the one-time reimbursement payment.

This is the third year that the UDC has opted to designate a portion of its federal funding allocation as received through the National Park Service Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River budget to help subsidize litter removal from the bi-state river and its banks.

The goal is to encourage the coordination of local clean-ups to help maintain the pristine quality of the 73.4-miles from the confluence of the East and West Branches of the Delaware below Hancock downstream to Railroad Bridge No. 2 near Sparrowbush that was designated for protection under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act in 1978.
