Sullivan Catskills Awards Tourism Grant to Upper Delaware Council
NARROWSBURG – The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) is pleased to receive a $1,000 grant from Sullivan County and the Sullivan Catskills Visitors Association (SCVA) for its project, “Promoting the Attractions and Stories of the Upper Delaware River Valley.”
The new Tourism Events Grants are designed to spark fresh ideas, elevate signature events, and drive year-round visitation throughout the Sullivan Catskills.
The UDC applied on December 12, 2025 and was notified March 3 of the $1,000 approval under the Hamlet & Micro-Brand category. There were 17 grants awarded in Round 1 of the FY 2025-26 program.
The Council sought funding to assist with the publication and distribution of the Spring 2026 issue of its tri-annual newsletter, “The Upper Delaware.”
The UDC has continuously published a newsletter about the environment and people of the Upper Delaware River Valley since its 1988 inception; however, funding challenges jeopardize the non-profit organization’s ability to continue this free, popular service. Its contents highlight local events, quality of life issues, and conservation opportunities which enhance stewardship of natural resources and help attract visitors.
The newsletter is a critical public outreach tool to inform about contemporary happenings while creating a researchable archive that documents the river valley’s history. It is the only such publication that focuses on the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River’s nationally remarkable values, its bordering communities, significant developments, events and attractions, beautification efforts, inspirational profiles, upcoming programs, and river recreation, safety, and access opportunities.
The Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River unit of the National Parks System most recently reported 377,061 annual visitors whose spending generated $24,211,000 in economic output to the gateway communities.
The UDC’s members are 13 local governments (eight NY towns and five PA townships), the State of New York, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and Delaware River Basin Commission, who appoint delegates to work in partnership with the National Park Service to oversee implementation of the Upper Delaware River Management Plan.
The Council employs three full-time staff members based in Narrowsburg, NY where monthly full board and committee meetings take place that are open to the public.
