March 29 Bus Tour Will Explore D&H Canal Sites in Ulster County

HIGH FALLS, NY ¬– Reservations are being accepted by a March 17 deadline for a March 29 historic bus tour of the Delaware & Hudson Canal in Ulster County sponsored by the D&H Canal Transportation Heritage Council (DHTHC), Participation is limited to 52 passengers, so act quickly!

Guided by DHTHC President and the D&H Canal Historical Society Historian and Curator Bill Merchant, guests will visit or learn about locks, aqueducts, and canal features in High Falls, Ellenville, Napanoch, and Kerhonkson.

Meet at 10 a.m. at the Mid-Hudson Visitor Center and D&H Canal Historical Society located at 1315 NY-213 in High Falls. The anticipated return time is 4 p.m.

The cost of $45 per person covers roundtrip transportation on a Rolling V Bus Corp. mini coach and admission to the D&H Canal Museum in High Falls with a guided walk on the Five Locks Trail at the conclusion of the tour.

There will be a lunch stop mid-route at Ricke Lens restaurant in Napanoch, where guests may order off the menu and self-pay or pack their own food to eat outside.

Please note that online payments are $46.61 per person to cover the processing fee.

This tour follows the canal route from Spring Glen to High Falls which is the subject of the 5th chapter of the Council’s DVD series, “The Delaware & Hudson Canal Company and Gravity Railroad: Its History and Legacy”. The videos, running approximately 15-25 minutes, are available through regional historical societies in NY and PA, with Chapter 5 offered for sale at the end of the trip for $10.
