Launch of “100 Mile Paddle” on the Delaware River

BEACH LAKE, PA – The National Park Service is celebrating its 100th birthday by inviting the public to paddle 100 miles on the Delaware River with us this summer. The “100 Mile Paddle” will be a series of ranger-led guided paddles covering 70 miles of the Upper Delaware River and 30 miles of the Middle Delaware River. The inaugural paddle will begin on Saturday, June 4th at 9:00am in Fireman’s Park in Hancock, NY and then travel down the river to the NY DEC Access in Lordville, NY. This seven mile paddle will take canoeists and kayakers through the Delaware River’s premier trout waters and scenic views. Paddlers must provide their own canoes or kayaks. Bus transportation back to Hancock, NY will be provided to paddlers so they will be able to retrieve their vehicles.

Long-term volunteer Bob Hare will be representing Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River as the Centennial River Ambassador. He will be paddling the entire 100 miles through Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River and then south to Upper Delaware S&RR’s sister park, Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Over the last seven years Bob Hare and with his wife Barb, have spent their summer months volunteering for the National Park Service at Upper Delaware. Each has accumulated over 6,000 volunteer hours.

This is an excellent opportunity for beginner and returning paddlers to paddle stretches of the river that they would not normally experience. Throughout the summer additional trips will take place on Saturdays until the entire two parks are traversed.

To participate in this event or subsequent trips you must pre-register. Please contact Anya Shaunessy at (570) 685-4871 ext. 6610 to register for this event, or to obtain more information about the “100 Mile Paddle”.
