Battle of Minisink to be Commemorated July 17
MINISINK FORD – The 231st anniversary of the American Revolution’s Battle of Minisink will be commemorated on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Sullivan County’s Minisink Battleground Park located in Minisink Ford.
Re-enactors from the Navasing Long Rifles and Third Ulster Militia will be encamped at the park from the evening of July 16 to the morning of July 18. Visitors are welcome throughout the weekend, particularly for their demonstrations of battle developments from 12-2 p.m. Saturday.
At 2:30 p.m., the authors of “So Many Brave Men: A History of the Battle at Minisink Ford”, will give a presentation on their new book published by The Pienpack Company. Mark Hendrickson, Jon Inners, and Peter Osborne will deliver the hour-long program at the park pavilion.
The traditional memorial service will take place at 4 p.m. at the park’s hilltop monument. The observance will include a gun salute, placement of wreaths, reading of the names of the battle dead, and remarks by dignitaries.
