Beach Lake, PA – Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River is excited to announce the arrival of a brand new Little Free Library. This is a partnership with the nonprofit organization, Little Free Library who has a strong mission “to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Libraries”.

Upper Delaware’s Little Free Library will be located at the home of famed Western Novelist Zane Grey, in the beautiful river community of Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania. Grey started his writing career right in Lackawaxen, finding solitude and inspiration for his early writing while fishing on the Delaware and Lackawaxen Rivers. Upon returning to Lackawaxen after traveling out west with a wide variety of story ideas, Grey would write his most famous book, Riders of the Purple Sage.

To kick off the opening of the Little Free Library, the library will be stocked with many of Zane Grey’s books including Riders of the Purple Sage, a variety of children’s books generously donated by Highlights and the Hawley Library, and adult and teen novels and books all connected to Upper Delaware’s natural and cultural stories. Then as the program goes…Take A Book, Leave a Book.

Little Free Library’s vision is for a “Little Free Library in every community and a book for every reader.” They believe all people are empowered when the opportunity to discover a personally relevant book to read is not limited by time, space, or privilege.

If you are interested in borrowing a book from our Little Free Library, please visit the library at 135 Scenic Drive, Lackawaxen, PA 18435.
