UDC Hosts Family Raft Trip Aug. 5
NARROWSBURG – The public is welcome to join the Upper Delaware Council’s (UDC) 24th Annual Family Raft Trip on Sunday, August 5, aimed at promoting stewardship of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River through participation in this fun event.
Reservations with advance payment are required by Friday, July 27. This year’s float trip features a 10-mile river segment between Callicoon and Skinner’s Falls.
Guests will park at the Skinner’s Falls Campground, located 7/10 of a mile off New York State Route 97 at 40 Skinner’s Falls West, Narrowsburg, NY 12764. Check-in is between the hours of 9-10 a.m. Lander’s River Trips will shuttle UDC guests to its Callicoon, NY base for their launch.
The average length for this trip is four hours, depending on river levels, wind, and desired pace. The host livery will provide the rafts, paddles, life vests, morning transportation, and a safety orientation. Minimum occupancy per raft is four people, while six is the general maximum. Parties of less than four will be matched at the UDC’s discretion.
The UDC’s discounted group rate is $24 for ages 13 and up, and $14 for ages 5 to 12.
Participants should be in good physical condition. Children must weigh at least 40 lbs. and be able to swim. The UDC strongly recommends that all boaters and swimmers wear securely-fastened life vests while on the water. Children age 12 and under are required by law to do so.
Dress to get wet, wear sunscreen and foot protection, and avoid carrying valuables. Pack a picnic lunch if desired and bring plenty of drinking water (no glass containers). Small coolers and waterproof bags for items such as cameras and keys may be tied into the raft.
